Raindrops Keep Falling On My...

Raindrops are not falling on my head but instead they are falling inside of my master bathroom vanity.  booo!
This tale of a simple weekend update has turned into two  weeks of back and forth fighting with a drainpipe.. and the drainpipe is winning.

I first found these beautiful satin nickel English bathroom faucet's on Overstock.com for a steal.  With a coupon and free shipping I scored this bathroom porn for under $50.00 each.  Hubby was happy, my wallet was happy.... our vanity is not so happy now.

We were buying these English beauties to replace some chrome faucets that the builder installed.  The annoying part of our new home is that none of the finishes match in each room.  Some items are chrome, some are satin so we have spent two years chasing down deals to get our house finishes in order.  Yes, these are my problems.. give me a gummy bear darn it.

Check out hubby hard at work and earning his man card.

Biscuit even helped supervise the job.  I think in this picture she is barking at hubby to hurry up.  Like mother, like daughter.

ohhh, ahhh
"she sexy and she knows it"

But then we are all brought back down to planet earth when one morning I opened my cabinet and water was leaking out of the pipe and was everywhere!

Now my bathroom cabinet looks like this.  *^#^%$*$($
The irony is that it's not the new fancy faucet that's leaking but the builder pipe.   Hubby will be back at it tonight but I almost see duck tape in our future.

Anyone out in blog land share my pain with an easy weekend makeover that just won't seem to end?

Let's have BJ Thomas send this post home today with his tribute to my bathroom.

Ps.  tomorrow I will have my first ever giveaway, kind of a moment for me, so hope to see you then

Snack Attack

Sigh… today at work.. wow intense!  These little chewy friends got me through a rough one today.

This is an action shot of me snacking at work.

Hope you had a better day and snack on!

Shipping Sidekick

With any good room makeover I am finding that more and more items we purchase are from online retailers.  I prefer a local vendor but sometimes the world wide whatever comes with a better selection and a fancy coupon code.   Our delivery man hits our house around 6:15ish in the evening.  This has caused for some pretty funny and adorable behavior patterns with our little fuzz ball Biscuit.  As the truck turns around in our cul-de-sac she suddenly runs from any room in the house, bolts down the stairs and waits for the knock on the door.

Next she plays inspector gadget and sniffs and circles each box.  Maybe in kitty land she is dreaming of a ball of catnip to roll out but usually it’s curtains or an animal print rug I am smuggling into our house.

Next with any good pet and myself as a child the real prize to any decorating delivery is the box.  I use to make Barbie clubhouses out of empty boxes.  Biscuit likes to make a nest with the bubble wrap.

Do your pets children have any delivery rituals like us?

Biscuit Approves

One of the things I have realized is that every time I make a tweak to my homes decor it highlights another tweak that needs to happen.  This drives hubby crazy and rightfully so.

Me: "ohhh if I could just buy this rug the room will finally feel done"
errr..wrong... mental note never say this around hubby

Exhibit A: our new zebra rug named Ziggy we added to the home office

pre Ziggy
&
after Ziggy

See how the pillow on my reading chair all of a sudden doesn't coordinate with the room. Why design gods, why?!?

Tweak time!

Last week I found this striking feather & down stuffed beauty at a downtown Durham home design store and knew she was the perfect match to Ziggy's showoff stripes.

Ahh check out my sexy reading office nook now!

For my final test to see if the pillow was a keeper Biscuit came over and did her famous sniff or snub test.

Looks like we all approve! Phew!

What do you think of my mini nook makeover?

Curtain Call

Let me give you a tour of my favorite room in our home.  This is my wine drinking, ipad shopping and adult nap room.

Many nights after work are spent here in complete silence snuggling with my kitty Biscuit as I recharge my batteries from a hectic day.

Each piece in the room holds special memories for me.  The Thomasville stiletto coffee table was a birthday gift from my daddy, the Z Gallerie pierre mirror was a gift to myself shocker for a job well done at work and the candle holder was found on a girls weekend shopping trip with my pal KK.

Each time I looked out the windows though something was missing.  Even Biscuit was always thinking that we could do better. I realized that the windows just need some finishing sparkle. I went back to Target to purchase the matching faux silk panels and lucky me found out that they were being discontinued.  Quickly I did an Ebay search and found some for sale here. Phew...

Matching panels wouldn't give me the full sparkle so I stepped it up and picked up two allen + roth honey fabric roman shades at Lowes.

supplies check!

Oops.. measured wrong.  Good thing the curtain will cover these lovely little holes.
shhh.. don't tell hubby

Slam dunk!
My adult nap room now feels complete!  Not bad for the wallet too as this little makeover was only around $75.00.

Adult Pencil Box

I still remember the Hello Kitty pencil case that my mother bought me.  I must have been 5 or 6 and it must have been one of my very first years at school and yet I can remember that case as if it were in my hands today.  It was hard, with lots of hidden compartments and sections. It had a built in pencil sharpener and an incredibly neat marker section that popped up when the compartment was opened. Even better, it was the envy of all my classmates. To this day I remember the pride I felt every time I pulled that case out of my desk.

Now lets fast forward about 25 years.
Today I found my new pencil case at a downtown home boutique.  It might not be pink glitter plastic and smell like strawberries but it is making this little girl at heart swoon.

Dressing Room Dreaming

My favorite bestie KK and I are always up to some sort of adventure together.  From sifting through treasures at our local flea market, driving hours for a pop up designer furniture sale or meeting up for a girls weekend in Vegas count the two of us in.

KK recently purchased a beautiful historic home in Richmond.  This past weekend she sent me some incredible before and after pictures of her dressing room.  Yes... I said dressing room!!  So jealous!!

Here are some pictures of the dressing room when the house was for sale. Parents hide your children's eyes from the horror below.

Yes, your eyes are not playing tricks.  One can only wonder what had to happen in this room to get to ring the bell.. hmmm...!

OK you can uncover your children's eyes now.

KK borrowed some sparkle from our Vegas dresses and has totally transformed the room into a women's dream!

Can someone buy this women a drink!  Beautiful!
I love how she added wire to the restored frame to hang and showcase her jewelry.

 Drooling with envy

By adding some crown molding to the far wall she instantly created a showplace for her favorite heels.
Such a creative and feminine touch to pull the room together.

Bravo bestie!  I can only imagine how much fun it is each morning to play dress up in here before work.

What do you all think about KK's dreamy dressing room?
